LA already had a great soccer tradition.
The So Cal club scene was thriving back
in the silent era. When the days of disco
struck, the Aztecs looked ready to take
that yellow brick road to western club
soccer glory. Born in East LA Community
College, led by George Best and Johan
Cruyff, and winners of the NASL title
in their inaugural season of 1974,
the club was blessed with royalty,
roots and real talent. Sadly, this
wasn’t enough to push the Aztecs
into the hearts of most Angelinos
- or into a bicoastal Soccer Bowl
with the New York Cosmos.
The Aztecs may have burned out in
